About the artist: Nancy Moore is an award-winning artist devoted to exploring the fragile yet resilient relationship between humanity and the wider world. She is especially interested in the theme of transformation and shape-shifting; the ways in which all living things continuously evolve, morph, regress, and adapt, along with the transformation of different materials into narrative images. The artist’s “color epiphany” occurred when she opened a deluxe 96-pack of Crayolas in 1998. The scent and feel of those crayons transported her to the childhood playroom where she spent hours drawing, and this ignited her artistic career as an adult. Her first image, a chameleon titled “Self-Portrait,” was the first to sell at her first exhibition, and she has never looked back. To create her images, Moore draws the barest outline, then applies layers of watercolor, and sometimes adds crayon, colored pencil, graphite, and gouache, until a fabric of woven texture emerges. Moore’s work has garnered a broad collector base from Vermont to California. She has exhibited widely in museums, galleries, and public institutions, including: Yale University (a yearlong solo show at the Peabody Museum’s Environmental Arts Center), Susan Eley Fine Arts (New York City), Katonah Museum of Art (Katonah NY), New Britain Museum of American Art (New Britain NY), Mattatuck Museum (Waterbury CT), Silvermine Gallery (New Canaan NY), Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut (Danbury CT), and Westport Arts Center (Westport CT). In 2014, Moore was inducted into the National Association of Women Artists. She is an artist guild member of the Silvermine Arts Center (New Canaan CT), Ridgefield Guild of Artists (Ridgefield CT), Katonah Museum Artists Association, and the Artists Collective of Westport (Westport CT).
